Abstract
"Chief Justice Ajmal Mian was a member of the superior judiciary for over twenty-one years. During this period he was witness to some events, most people's knowledge of which is based on incomplete or selective data. In this autobiography, he sets the record straight." "A Judge Speaks out provides some interesting anecdotes and poignant moments from his life: his youth, his migration at Partition from Delhi to Karachi in 1947 and the acclimatization of his family there, to his subsequent entry into the legal profession in 1957. Milestones in his career are given due recognition, such as his selection as a judge of the Sindh High Court, nomination for the Sukkur Bench, appointments as an Acting Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court and Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, and his subsequent elevation as a Judge to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1989. One significant event discussed in the book is the development of conflict between Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Followed by the storming of the Supreme Court of Pakistan." "Landmark judgments that affect society and the culture of jurisprudence are discussed in detail. Describing some highly critical events in the history of our judiciary, Chief Justice Ajmal Mian shares with the reader his legal perspective on this to help dispel the mist of confusion surrounding the role of Judiciary in this country.
