Abstract
This beautifully illustrated, full-color book provides an account of the way in which Australians lived in 1901 at the time of Federation -- the creation of the Commonwealth of Australia from its composite states. It covers topics such as rural life, life in the cities, lifestyles of the Chinese and other immigrant groups, maritime life, places relating to the creation of national institutions, Government Houses, and Federation memorabilia. Each chapter is written by an expert in the area discussed and the material has not previously been available for the general reader. The book is a project of the Australian Society for Historical Archaeology.
