Abstract
"The collected papers of Frederic William Maitland were published by the Cambridge University Press in 1911 in three volumes and are now out of print. More than half of the present selection was not included among them, the date and place of previous publication are noted at the beginning of each essay. Except for essay VII, Maitland's notes are given in full, with only the slight corrections made necessary by the re-classification of records or the detection of some small error of fact. Notes which have been added by the editor are enclosed in square brackets." - Preface
