Abstract
"Virtually hidden in the rare third fascicle of The Phillips History of Fall River by Arthur Sherman Phillips is this account of the Borden murders and the trial of Lizzie Borden written by Phillips before he died in 1941. The biography of Phillips was abstracted from Fascicle I of this history printed by Dover Press of Fall River, Massachusetts. The foreword was abstracted from Fascicle III also printed by Dover Press in 1946, for which acknowledgement has been duly noted on copyright page. Phillips, a member of the Lizzie Borden's team of defense lawyers, still believes Lizzie to be innocent almost fifty years after the crime when all active participants in the trial were dead. The trial apparently affect Phillips deeply as it was noted by Edwin Porter in his book that Phillips was in tears after hearing Attorney Jennings's plea at a preliminary hearing. Phillips never wavered in his defense of Lizzie. Phillips' narrative has been missed and ignored by other more recent writers on the subject and this account is the first known separate publication of Phillips
work..." - Publisher's introduction
