Abstract
"Ellis Bent (1783-1815) was the youngest son of Robert Bent, a descendant of an ancient Lanchasire family. His family home was in Surrey and was called 'Moulsey'. He and his Eliza, had 5 children. Ellis was called to the bar in 1805 and then went into practice. He made his mark quickly, apparently, for in May 1809, when approving the nomination of him by Brigadier-General Nightingall, then Judge-Advocate in the Colony. He and his family boarded the H.M.S. Dromedary on 22 May 1809 New South Wales and landed in Sydney. Jeffery Hart Bent (1781-1852), went before the bar in 1806. He practiced at the English Bar until (on the recommendation of Goverenor Macquaire urged by Jeffery's brother Ellis) he was appointed to the Judgeship of the Supreme Court of Civil Judicature in New South Wales. He sailed for New South Wales in 1814 aboard the Broxbornebury. Jeffery was dismissed in 1816 and was subsequently he was appointed to judgeships in the West Indies." - Voila
