Abstract
"This volume is a joint production of two co-editors. As is common with any such partnership, it is not a simple matter to delineate precisely what our respective roles have been, or whose responsibility each aspect of the project should be reckoned to be; but we feel compelled to try. We began discussion the prospect of a Seldon Society volume on law in the manor court more than then years ago, and the Society granted its preliminary approval in 1985. From the outset, our notions of what legal territory we would cover and how we would go about collecting and presenting the material were very much a joint effort, honed through innumerable conversations." - Preface
